weekly baby guide

7 Weeks Old

BABY

Baby is starting to make sense of her developing senses, learning that perceptions relate to each other (for example, the look, feel, and sound of her rattle are all related). She will soon realize that her limbs are under her control. Amazing!

MOM

Don’t get down on yourself if you don’t love every aspect of mothering. It’s a huge adjustment! Arrange for some help so you can get out of the house for an hour without the baby at least once or twice a week: walk, run an errand, or even find a quiet place to sit and cry if you feel the need!

PARTNER

Mom really needs help and support, which often means looking after the baby so mom can do something else, like nap or have a shower. Try songs or poems with movements: “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “This Little Piggy” are classics.

2LIFE

If mom has sufficiently recovered, sex may be back on the menu soon (don’t forget the birth control!). Then again, you both may be too exhausted, or she may not be ready. If nothing else, have a skin-to-skin group hug with baby.
