Signing up and connecting with partner

How do we create a joint account?

It's easy. Just follow these steps:

  1. Partner A: Download and launch the app. Choose "Sign Up" and create an account. Click "Next."
  2. Fill in all the information on the "Invite your partner" screen. Be sure to enter your partner's email address correctly. Tap on "Send invitation."
  3. Partner B: Check your email for a message with the subject "RSVP: (Partner A) has invited you to share 2life." (If it does not arrive in your inbox, check your junk email folder!) Open the email and note the special 4-digit invitation code in the message.
  4. Download and launch the app. Choose "Sign Up" and create an account using the email address the invitation was sent to. Click "Next."
  5. Enter the four-digit code from the email. (If you can't find it, ask your partner to check on his/her Profile screen; it can be found there until your joint sign-up is complete.)
  6. Tap on "Accept." That's it! You have created your joint account and can begin sharing.

I got an error message saying "Please check your email to confirm this invitation request." What's that about?

It means we sent you an email because we have to help you connect. Please reply! We will connect you as quickly as possible (usually immediately, but we do need to sleep sometimes).

There are several possible reasons why this happened:

  1. The sign-up process of "A invites B and B accepts invitation" (as outlined above) has not been followed. For example, you both signed up and invited each other at the same time. (Our system is currently unable to handle every scenario, but we're working on improving it.)
  2. You used the same email address to invite your partner that you used to sign up yourself. Because it functions as a user name, each person must sign up with a unique email address. Please resend the invitation using a different email address for your partner. To return to the invitation screen, either go to your profile in the app, or log out and log in again.
  3. You received an invitation, but signed up using a different email address, or made an error in your email address. So the system didn't recognize you, you were not presented with the field for your PIN, and you invited your partner. (If you would like to solve this yourself, see the following questions.)

I skipped inviting my partner because I wanted to check out the app first. Now I can't find a way to invite him. Help!

Please go to your profile page (tap on "Profiles" in the menu). You can invite your partner from there. Also, if you log out and log in again, you will be presented with an invitation screen until your 2life partnership has been formed.

I invited my partner, but I keep getting the "still using 2life alone" screen when I launch the app. Why?

Your partner has not yet signed up and accepted your invitation. There are a few possible reasons for this:

  1. The invitation email may have been caught by your partner's spam filter. Ask him or her to check the Junk Email folder.
  2. You may have entered your partner's email address incorrectly so the invitation was never received. Double-check the address and try sending the invitation again.
  3. Your partner may have incorrectly entered his or her email address when creating an account, or used a different email address than the one you sent the invitation to.
  4. Your invitation may have been declined, in which case the two of you should talk it over.

Where do I enter my promo code?

Once you and your partner are connected in 2life, you will be able to enter a promo code in your settings. Tap on "settings" (near the bottom of the menu, in the INFO section). If your promo code is for an upgrade, log out and log in again (after entering code) to activate it.

Your email address

I don't want to sign up using the email address my partner invited me at. I want to use a different one. What should I do?

Ask your partner to send the invitation again using the email address of your choice. (DO NOT sign up with it and then try to invite your partner. But if you do, see previous question.)

I made a mistake in my email address when I signed up. What should I do?

If you are not yet connected with your partner: on the login screen, choose "Go to account options" (2life) or "Create account" (2life Ultimate Wedding Planner), then choose SIGN UP and start over again.

If you are already connected: Send an email to support@2life.io and we will correct it for you.

If you would like to delete an account made with the wrong email address, send a message to support@2life.io.

My partner and I share an email address and we want to use it to sign up.

The email address you sign up with is your user name and must be unique for every person, so each of you must sign up with a different email address.

I changed my email address. How do I update it?

Send an email to support@2life.io with all the pertinent information, including the email address you used to sign up for 2life.

Calendar

Eek! I don't want my partner to see my calendar!

Your own events from your device calendar are not shared with your partner. Only events that are entered in 2life are shared. (In 2life they have a grey bubble icon next to them in the list.)

Why can't my partner see my calendar?

Your own events from your device calendar are not shared with your partner. Only events that are entered in 2life are shared. (In 2life they have a grey bubble icon next to them in the list.) We are planning to introduce a SHARE button so that events entered in your device calendar can later be shared via 2life.

How can I hide birthdays in my 2life calendar?

Go to Settings on your device, scroll down and tap on the app name (2life or 2lifeWedding), and set the "Hide Birthdays calendar" switch to ON.

Known issue in calendar: multi-day events

Multi-day events currently cannot be entered in the 2life calendar. Only the first day will appear. Each day must be added individually.

Profile picture

I have added my profile picture, but it's not showing in my partner's 2life.

Please upload the photo again. Go to your PROFILE, tap on the pencil icon to go to edit mode, tap on the photo to change it, then tap on SAVE. Then your partner should log out of 2life and log in again. That should fix it.

Push notifications

When I downloaded the app I opted out of push notifications, but now I've changed my mind. How do I turn them on?

You must leave 2life and go to Settings on your device. Tap on the Notifications tab, scroll down to find 2life, and change your settings there.

I have Push notifications turned ON in my Settings, but they are not working.

Please quit the app and relaunch it to reset them. (For instructions on how to quit apps, click here.)

Preferences and settings

Why does 2life need to know my location?

Some of our content varies according to your location. You can allow/disallow location services for 2life in your device settings. Settings > Privacy > Location Services > 2life.

I didn't give 2life access to my device calendar when I first launched the app. Now I have changed my mind. How do I change the setting?

  1. Quit the 2life app. (For instructions on how to quit apps, click here.)
  2. Go to your device's Settings.
  3. Tap on Privacy.
  4. Tap on Calendars.
  5. You will see 2life there; toggle the switch to ON.
  6. Relaunch 2life.

About your account

How do I delete my account if I decide not to use 2life?

Send an email to support@2life.io. We will delete it for you.

Can our account be moved from 2life Ultimate Wedding Planner to 2life?

Yes. Just log in to 2life using the same email address and password that you used for 2life Ultimate Wedding Planner. Your data will be there. If you have upgraded to Premium, the upgrade applies to 2life as well. NOTE: both partners should switch to 2life; otherwise, push notifications will not work.

About devices

When will you be releasing an Android or Blackberry version?

We plan to release the app on other platforms just as soon as we can. If you would like us to keep you up to date, join our email list here.

Can we use 2life on more than 2 devices?

Yes, and it's designed for every size of Apple device. In fact, it might even be worth getting another one (an iPad, that is, if you don't have one already, for full enjoyment of our in-app magazines!). You can log into your 2life account using your login and password on any of your iOS devices that has 2life on it.

What if we share a device?

2life is designed to communicate between two (or more) devices. There may be a device that you both use, such as an iPad. That's why there's a profile photo at the top of the menu bar to show you who is logged in.

2life Premium vs Basic

Are there other features still to come?

We have tons of ideas for future upgrades and a few in the works; we will release them as soon as we can. Meanwhile, we would really like to know what would work for you. Please send your suggestions via our feedback links.

Why should we pay for the Premium service? Where does the money go?

Apple takes 30% off the top as commission for selling through the iTunes store. The rest defrays the cost of storage and activity on our server demanded by the Premium features, plus our company overheads and the cost of development. (After all, we are trying to make a living at this, and we think the app is totally worth the cost of, say, a lunch. We hope you think so too!)

When you say we are limited to 20 photos in the Basic version, what do you mean exactly?

We will store 20 uploaded photos (per joint account) on our server for access via your 2life app.

Do we both have to buy the upgrade?

No. One purchase covers both of you.

How do I cancel 2life Premium?

Your upgrade to 2life Premium cannot be canceled once it's been paid. Your subscription will expire at the end of the period you paid for.

If we don't renew our subscription, will we lose our data?

If you return to 2life Basic and have exceeded the 2life Basic limits, your data will still be available, but you will be unable to add any new data to lists, journals or photos.

About functionality

How do I use the tools?

Please visit "How to use 2life" (2life) or "How to use 2life tools" (2life Ultimate Wedding planner) in the HELP tab.

Why are my chat messages getting cut off?

Chat is limited to 128 characters per message. This is for technical reasons (encryption, efficient transmission, etc.). Anything in excess of that limit will be cut off. If you want to send a longer message, divide it into shorter chunks. For a really long and important message, a shared journal entry might be a good alternative!

How do I edit things?

If there is a pencil icon, tapping on it gives you an editable view.

How do I add a link to a list item?

Tap on the item to open the detail view, then tap on the pencil icon (top right), then enter the URL (using the keyboard or by pasting) in the Notes window. After you press DONE, the link will be tappable in the list detail view. Back in the list item view, a star next to the item indicates that there is a note attached.

Where can I find emoticons?

You can use the huge selection of emoticons offered in iOS. Here's what to do:

  1. Remember the following steps, because you need to leave 2life to do this.
  2. Go to your device's Settings.
  3. Tap on General.
  4. Scroll down and tap on Keyboard.
  5. On the Keyboard screen, tap on Keyboards.
  6. Tap on Add new keyboard.
  7. Choose Emoji from the menu.

That’s it! Back in the 2life app (or others), tap on the Globe icon at the bottom of the text-entry screen to toggle between keyboards.

For more about Emoji, visit https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4976.

How do I reset my password?

Tap on the Settings tab (under INFO in the app menu) and tap on the Change password button.

About data and security

How private and secure is our data? Who has access to it?

Please consult our Privacy Policy for complete information.

What happens if I get a new phone or other device?

As long as it's an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad running iOS 6.0 or later, all you need to do is download 2life onto the new device and then log in using the email address and password with which you first set up your account. Your data will all be there.

About changes to joint account/users

Can we add another user?

For now, 2life is designed for two people only. If you would find it useful for more than one, let us know how. We welcome your suggestions via our Feedback links.

About 2life content

I have a suggestion for a story/blog post/date night idea. Where should I send it?

Please submit it via our Feedback links.

Does the content slow down the performance of the app or use up memory on my device?

No, the content is fed into the app dynamically via an internet connection.

About the app and our company

This app does nothing that we can't do other ways. Why do we need it?

There is just so much clutter in people's lives now — so many apps, so many emails, so much social networking… 2life is a sanctuary for your relationship in the midst of all of that. It's a direct connection to the person that matters most to you and what you're up to together. It consolidates all of your one-to-one sharing in one place and keeps you up to date at a glance. In a nutshell, it's the one-tap app for your most important relationship.

What's the difference between 2life and the 2life Ultimate Wedding Planner?

The tools are the same. Only the content is different. The weddings version, obviously, has content relating to wedding planning. The content in 2life is more general, mostly about couple lifestyle.

How will 2life make money?

We feel strongly that there should be no surprises in store for our users, so we launched 2life with our revenue streams in full view: in-app purchases (upgrade paid by the consumer for 2life Premium) and advertising/marketing partnerships. We pride ourselves on integrating the latter into 2life (in the app and on our website) in a tasteful and helpful way.

We would also like to acknowledge the Ontario Media Development Corporation and the Canadian Media Fund for their support.

What improvements are planned for future versions?

We have lots in the works and a long wish list, and we try hard to anticipate your needs, but we really want to know what you would like and whether you have any issues with the way the app is working now. Please send us your feedback and suggestions!

Do we need the internet to use 2life?

Yes, 2life requires an internet connection in order to share with your partner via our servers and to access 2life content.

Why iOS? Why did you choose to develop for Apple devices?

We used to print our magazine — an honest-to-goodness periodical on paper. When Apple announced the iPad, it seemed ideal for our leap into digital and we decided to start developing for iOS. Our first digital magazine for iPad came out in 2010 and all of our subsequent apps were developed on iOS. So it seemed a logical place to begin with our 2life app. That being said, we want 2life to be useful to as many people as possible, so we will be releasing it on other platforms just as soon as we can.
