If you’re planning a food/culture/romance trip this year, consider heading to Milan to take in Expo Milano 2015, running from May 1 through November 1.

The Expo’s theme is “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” and we can’t think of a better place to explore that theme than Italy, where the connection between culture and food is so strong and where they have been practising sustainable food production for centuries. In addition to the exposition, there are numerous cultural events and tours being planned, such as Thematic Routes, for the many visitors who will be attending Expo Milano 2015.

More than 145 countries will be taking part. In the first pavilion, Arts & Foods. Rituals since 1851, there will be over 2,000 works of art that tell the story of the relationship between food, ritual and artistic expression. Cirque du Soleil will be performing throughout the Expo. As well, there will be special events in the surrounding regions to lead visitors on a journey of discovery and show how food production and tastes are linked to those regions in very particular ways.
