When planning their nuptials in Petersburg, Kentucky, Avery and Shaun wanted an intimate outdoor setting to host their 200 guests, but they had a difficult time finding the right space. Then they got an idea. “My dad is a horticulturalist and the Senior Director of the Grounds at the Creation Museum,” says Avery. “He designed the gardens, planted the trees and flowers and placed the rocks for the water falls—it meant so much to us to be married in the middle of the beautiful gardens that he created.” Although not a typical wedding venue, the gardens of the Creation Museum proved to be a beautiful, natural backdrop for their boho-chic celebration and gorgeous wedding photos by Megan White Photo.

The color palette included blush pink, sage green and gold. Avery’s gown with floral appliqués was complemented by a floral wreath and magnificent bouquet. “Because my dress had the floral detail and we were being married in the middle of a garden, I knew my bouquet needed to be over-the-top,” says Avery. “My Aunt Nancy works as a florist and did an absolutely amazing job—my bouquet ended up being so heavy that I couldn’t hold it the entire time!” Her stunning bridal party wore different styles of full-length dresses in shades of pink, taupe and gold and carried large bouquets of baby’s breath.

Avery designed the eclectic decor elements. “For the decorations, I shopped every chance I got–online, at antique malls, and various shops,” says Avery. “I also borrowed dishes, tablecloths, mirrors, and picture frames. I loved the unique decorations and have several of them in our house.” An escort card display of mini dreamcatchers doubled as a colorful decor feature and wedding favors.

Guests participated in the personal service by each lighting a candle at their seat during the unity candle ceremony before celebrating with an elaborate display of mixed desserts.
