Style My Bump: 3 Tips For Your Maternity Photos

Explore the #stylemybump hashtag on Instagram and you’ll see just how popular maternity photo shoots are. Expectant parents are preparing for baby with beautiful professional photo shoots that capture the love at the core of their relationship. (Tip: frame your favorite one or two shots and put them in baby’s nursery.)

We love Jen and Steve’s romantic maternity session with Casey of McGaffick Photography. The poses are natural and Casey did a beautiful job of capturing their love, and their excitement of becoming parents–without any cheesy poses or gimmicky props.

Here, Casey shares her top 3 tips for other expectant moms and/or couples looking to capture this special time in their lives.

1. Make it about the relationship! Yes, there are shots in a session where the focus is the growing belly, but some of the most compelling images happen when the focus is on the relationship. Having the relationship as the subject, with a pregnancy adding even more beauty, is far more compelling than typical belly shots.

2. Wear something form fitting. We want to see that cute baby belly! This also allows clients to have their hands free for interaction and posing, without having to continually frame the belly with their hands in order to see it.

3. Have fun! Most importantly, I want my clients to enjoy themselves and relish in this short phase of life before they add another member to their family.
