What To (Really!) Expect On Your Wedding Night

Look, we don’t have a crystal ball and we’ve never appeared on the Psychic Friends Network, so we can’t tell you exactly what to expect on your wedding night, which is actually probably a good thing because that could get awkward for all of us…However, we can tell you that it will be magical evening that you’ll remember forever –provided you don’t overdo it on the bubbly. Here are a few pointers for your first night as a married couple.

1. You Might Not Consummate. Gasp! It’s shocking, we know, but stress, excitement and a few celebratory cocktails can leave many couples too exhausted to have sex on their wedding night. But don’t worry–you won’t curse yourselves with a lackluster sex life by not consummating your marriage asap. You have a lifetime of marital shagging ahead of you!

2. Set the Mood. We’re talking a rose-petals-on-the-duvet, hot-tub-in-the-ensuite, Chris Harrison-approved Fantasy Suite. If you splurged on a hotel room, arrange to have flowers, candles and a bottle of champagne chilling in a silver bucket waiting for you at the end of the night. Sleeping at home? Hide that basket of dirty laundry in the closet, create a romantic playlist and light some candles. If you’re too tired for nookie when you first get back to your room, a few bars of your favorite romantic songs just might have you two rollin’ in the sheets, after all.

3. Be Prepared. Ok, so we’ve just told you that you might not get any post-“I do” action, but there are lots of couples who do get lucky on their wedding night, and you’ll want to be prepared should you be so blessed. Ladies, pack your sexiest negligee and those furry slip-on heels you’ve been saving for the occasion, and fellas, make sure you’re freshly man-scaped. You might not have sex immediately following your reception, but the aforementioned rules apply to morning nookie, as well.

4. Have Fun! Jump on the bed, debrief your favorite parts of the day, feed each other chocolate covered strawberries, even if such cheesy displays of affection would usually make you squirm. It’s a special time in your lives, so don’t hold back on some romantic playfulness.
