Joey and Chie have been sweethearts since high school, so they were totally in sync while planning their wedding at the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. They wanted it to be a true reflection of their personalities, and fun for their guests, above all. They hired Jesi Haack Design to help them pull it all together, and the fabulous results made for beautiful photographs by Steve Cowell.

Making the event colorful was a top priority for Joey and Chie. The wedding decor featured yards and yards of ribbon and yarn, fashioned into tassels and fringes that served as backdrops and decorations for the ceremony and reception. This motif was carried into the boutonnieres, bouquets, floral arrangements, and the gorgeous wreath Chie wore, with fringe-like foliage and trailing ribbons. The outdoor aisle was created with a collection of vintage rugs laid end to end – another colorful and unusual textile element.

The creative details and decor incorporated a few of their favorite things. “Most of the wedding style was inspired by things we love. Video games, toy dinosaurs, disco balls – we wanted to share all these things with our guests.” Toy dinosaurs were used for place cards that doubled as favors, and guests signed Gameboy cartridges instead of a guest book!

Joey and Chie’s wedding is a fine example of how some creativity and personality help make for a memorable occasion.
