Love it or hate it, Apple’s much-anticipated operating system, iOS 7, will be available today.

The new operating system is the most distinctive-looking iOS yet. The design is light and bright with transparent elements and pops of color, and the overall look is fresh and modern. “True simplicity is derived from so much more than just the absence of clutter and ornamentation — it’s about bringing order to complexity,” says Jony Ive, the Senior Vice President of Design at Apple.

New features include square-crop photos (Instagrammers will love this!), an animated weather app and the useful Control Center, which offers access to AirDrop, AirPlay, Wi-Fi, etc., and go-to apps like clock, calculator and camera from any screen.

As Mashable points out, there are likely to be glitches involved in updating your Apple devices with the new operating system. While Apple automatically backs up users’ most important information, Mashable recommends that you take precautions and back up your data using iCloud.
